In Math, students have been busy working on fractions and probability. We learned the following probability terms
Predicted Probability - what you think will happen
Actual Probability - what really happened
Certain - what will happen
Likely - what will probably happen
Equally Likely - The same chance of it happening, 50/50 chance
Unlikely - what probably won't happen
Impossible - what will never happen
Below is a video about fractions. We have become expects at representing fractions.

In Math, we are currently working on money! Students learning goals include
- describe and represent coins and bills up to $100
- estimate, count and represent the value of a collection of coins.
In Language, we have started talking about non-fiction text features. These are features of a non-fiction book that help us to better understand the book and find the information we are looking for. Below is a video of some test features.

There will be a math test on Tuesday April 5th. The test will cover the following
- selecting the appropriate unit of measure. For example to measure the size of a book you would use centimetres but to measure the size of your bedroom you would use metres.
- using a ruler to measure specific items and draw specific lengths.
- measure and calculate perimeter and area of 2D shapes

In Math we have been working on perimeter and area. Today we discovered that you can find area by multiplying the length and the width of a rectangle. Our formula is A=LxW.
Yesterday, we went outside to find the perimeter of the kindergarten play area. The information we found could be used to know how much fence is needed to enclose it.
To practice at home try to find the perimeter and area of the rectangles below

On Thursday we will be having a Math test on Multiplication and Division. Our learning goals for the test are as follows:
- To multiply to 9X9 using a variety of strategies
- To divide to 81 ÷ 9 using a variety of strategies
- To multiply two-digit whole numbers by one-digit whole numbers.
- solve problems that may arise in real-life using multiplication and/or division.
- To demonstrate the relationship between multiplication and division
Sample Questions

Julie has 4 bags with 6 books in each bag. John has 5 bags with 5 books in each bag. Who has more books?
You have 36 pants you would like to donate to charity. You have 3 bags to pack the pants equally. How many pants will fit in each bag?

Below is our anchor chart with the elements of a Narrative. Before we write our very own narratives we will spend some time working on how to build a strong beginning that makes the reader want to continue reading. Yesterday, we discussed ways we can hook our reader in only a couple sentences. Blow are some of the ways we came up with.

Last week we had a special guest come in to teach us about complimentary colours and how they are used in product design.
This week in math we are moving on to multiplication. By the end of grade 4 students should be able to use mental math to multiply numbers up to 9X9. Please practice the multiplication tables at home with your son or daughter to help make it easier for them.
In class we will be looking at where we can find multiplication in real life and why it is so useful everyday.
In language students are finishing their Recount of a Robert Munsch story and we are moving on to practice finding the main idea. When find the main idea students should look at the title, the pictures, the first and last sentence, and words that appear a lot.

- focus on one main idea
- answer who, what, when, where, why, and how
- include details related to different senses and descriptive details that allow the reader to visualize
- convey feeling in the writing.

In Math, our learning goals for data management are the follow:
- collect data by conducting a survey
- organize data and display the data in charts, tables, and graphs that have appropriate titles, labels and scales
As an introduction to our unit the students surveyed the class. our survey question was "how many siblings do you have?"
In Language, we began talking about how to respond to thick questions. To ensure that we have provided a full response we learned to use the strategy of R.O.P.E.S.
In Science, we have been working hard on our science projects. We have also been observing our plants that have grown a lot!

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. This week we will continue to focus on visualizing, descriptive writing and place value.
Students are working on representing numbers in different ways. Some of these ways include standard form, word form, expanded form, base ten blocks, and pictures. Ask your son or daughter how they can use each of these ways to represent numbers.
Our focus for reading is visualizing. Ask your son or daughter what pictures they see in their mind as they read. Students are using "Into the Book" to create the pictures in their mind.
In science we have begun learning about habitats. Last week students began comparing our habitat to a beavers habitat. What differences can you think of? This week we will be looking at what makes a good habitat.
